Noba Print Books FAQ
Are there limits on book size?
Yes, the largest book our print partner (Lulu.com) can accommodate is 740 pages.
How can I know the print page count of my book?
If your book contains 45 or more modules it may be approaching or over the print page limit. The only way to know for certain is to make a request using the form above. The documents we send to the printer are different than the PDFs of your book that you can download yourself from the Noba website (so those page counts don’t matter for printing by Lulu). Once we get your request we’ll check to see if your book is below the 740-page limit. If there is a problem we’ll let you know right away.
What if my book is over the limit?
If print copies are important, we’d suggest you edit your book and remove a few modules first. The bulk of what you need will be available in print. Then assign the modules you removed digitally as extra reading.
Do I need to guarantee a certain number of students will order the book?
No. We're using a "print-on-demand" system. When someone places an order, then and only then the book gets printed. If only a few students order the book nothing is wasted.
What is required of students who would like to order a hard copy Noba book?
Students will need 4 things to order a hard copy Noba book.
- The link to the order page - We will first provide this to you, the instructor, and then you can distribute the link to students.
- Internet access - Hard copy Noba books are available only online through Lulu.com.
- A credit card or PayPal account – These are the two payment types accepted by Lulu.com
- An address where the book can be shipped
What are the approximate costs?
We can tell you the exact cost of your book (without shipping or tax) when we finalize your order page.
What are the approximate shipping costs?
Shipping costs are hard to estimate because they depend on a number factors such as the region and the method of shipping. The costs are in line with what is typical in your area for similar services (post office, Fed Ex, DHL, UPS, etc.)
How long will it take for a book to arrive?
That depends to a large degree on the shipping method you choose. The book itself will be printed somewhere from 3-5 days after the order is placed. Shipping times range from 1 to 10 days depending on the shipping method you choose.
Can I have a Noba book shipped anywhere in the world?
Most countries can be served through the local postal system, however these are the main (local) print and ship regions served by our print partner Lulu.com.
- United States
- Latin America
How are the books printed and bound?
Noba books come in an 8.5 x 11 format (a pretty standard textbook size). They are “perfect bound” soft-cover books printed on 50# paper. Interior printing is black and white on white. All images/figures/tables are grayscale.
We have selected these options to keep costs for students as low as possible.
Can I have my book available to print in color?
No. For the time being anyway we are offering the books with gray scale images only. Color printing increases the costs by 5-6x.
I made some changes to the book I used last semester/year. Do I need to make a new request for an updated print copy?
Yes. Changes you make to your book on the Noba website are not automatically reflected in the book originally uploaded to the Lulu.com marketplace. After making changes, please fill out a new print copy request and we’ll update the book on the order page and provide you with a new link.
Can my students re-sell the book when they’ve finished the course?
Yes, students can re-sell their books if they choose.
